Providing room for developing mouths

Frenectomies

We treat children with frenectomies to help with speech articulation challenges, slow eating, mouth breathing, snoring, or sleep disturbances.

Frenectomies

All children are born with small tissue attachments, called frena, that link the lips to the gums and the tongue to the floor of the mouth. If these bands are unusually short, thick, or tight, they can limit normal oral function:

  • Tongue Ties: Restrain tongue mobility, making it difficult for the tongue to reach the roof of the mouth for proper resting position, nursing, swallowing, and speech.

  • Lip Ties: Fasten the upper lip closely to the top gum, keeping it from flaring outward during breastfeeding and potentially leading to dental spacing or hygiene issues.

Releasing tongue or lip ties can provide freedom of movement of the lips and mouth, assisting the child to eat easier, speak with better articulation, sleep easier or breathe better. If you suspect your child may have restricted movement of their tongue or lips, schedule an appointment for a consultation.
